A Surplus

I looked out my hotel room in Pasadena, CA. (July 2012) and saw this remarkable juxtaposition of realities. The cross atop the Greek Orthodox church screams Jesus Christ. In Matthew 6 Jesus tells us,

“do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?..Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”

The surplus sign says the exact opposite. It says, “prepare for next week, next month, next year.” It also says that man has so much stuff that it has a surplus. Who needs God when you have your local surplus store? Too bad man’s surplus is lacking. Bring on the cross of Christ!
