Contest Announcement: Memorable Book Covers

UPDATE: The cover is complete!TGTD Front Cover Widget

See below for how you can win a copy of the GQB release when it comes out.

Grail Quest Books has entered into the cover design process for Lumen Legends: The Gift and The Defender. Needless to say, I’m stoked! Years ago, when I self-published TGTD I released it with the cover you see here. TGTD Front ebook smallI designed it myself, and to be honest, I think I did a pretty decent job. However, my artistic skills were not up to snuff to produce the cover I really wanted. I’m excited to see the cover that will accompany the new and improved book. It really is a new and improved book. Working with an editing team is awesome! It’s fitting that it should have a new cover – something about new wine in new wineskins (Matthew 9:17), right?

Thinking about TGTD’s cover got me thinking about other book covers and the old adage about not judging a book by it’s cover. How many of us actually listen to that wisdom? A book’s cover is the first impression readers get, and many times it’s the ultimate reason they read a particular book, as opposed to another one. When you think of books, which cover(s) pop into your brain-thingy? A_Light_in_the_Attic_coverJust now, as I was thinking of books, I had an image of Shel Silverstein’s A Light in the Attic. I’ve actually never read this book, but I always remember seeing it in the elementary school library. The drawing has always tickled my imagination.

Which book cover(s) stand out in your memory and why?

I really want to know. So, here’s the thing, I’m opening up a contest on the Lumen Legends Facebook page. At the end of the contest I’ll give the winner a signed copy of The Gift and The Defender after it’s released. Here are the rules:

  1. Like the Lumen Legends Facebook page. If you’ve already liked it, awesome!
  2. Post an image of a book cover and give a brief explanation as to why you like it, or what memory corresponds to it. Have more than one in mind? Post another. In fact, post as many as you would like!
  3. Once 25 different people have posted at least one cover the contest will be closed and the good folks at Grail Quest Books will randomly select a winner. I’ll then announce the winner on the Lumen Legends Facebook page.

What do you think? Want a free signed copy of The Gift and the Defender? Sure you do, c’mon, it’s free! And as soon as I have more news on the cover of TGTD I’ll let you know.
